Professor Aali Sheen qualified in medicine from the University of Dundee in 1993. Professor Sheen became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998 (FRCS), obtaining a Doctorate in 2003 from the University of Manchester (M.D.) followed by his final specialist fellowship from the Intercollegiate board in General Surgery in 2005 (FRCS Gen Surg). Professor Sheen undertook training in General Surgery in London, Oxford and Manchester following which he undertook specialised HepatoPancreato-Biliary (Liver, Pancreas and Gallbladder) training in both Manchester and Leeds as well as specialist hernia surgery in Sweden. 

Professor Sheen's main clinical interests are diseases of the Liver, Pancreas, Gallbladder and Bile duct as well as Hernia surgery. Professor Sheen has expertise in advanced laparoscopic 'keyhole' surgery and mainly undertakes procedures for the treatment of gallstones and cancers of both the Liver and Pancreas, inguinal hernias & the sportsman?s groin (inguinal disruption).

Professor Sheen was appointed a Consultant General Surgeon in December 2005 at Manchester Royal Infirmary and has to date, undertaken over 1000 laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures for gallstones and in approximately of 600 major cancer procedures involving the Liver and Pancreas in years as a Consultant Surgeon, including laparoscopic major liver operations for cancer and laparoscopic whipples for pancreas cancer. He has also undertaken over 800 inguinal hernia repairs as well as over 100 complex incisional hernias, 60-80% of which he undertakes laparoscopically.

Professor Sheen will provide a fast track, seamless service for all patients who are referred suffering from ailments within his field including All types of Hernia, Gallstones, Weight loss, Jaundice, Pancreatitis, suspected cancer of the Liver and Pancreas and Abdominal symptoms/ pain.

Professor Sheen also has a clinic at Fortius in London which is dedicated to the care of abdominal wall hernias, sportsman’s groin and chronic groin pain
